Hut to Hut Hike - Rifugio Fanes to Rifugio Fodara Vedla

Rifugio Pederü

Today's hike was relatively short at 8km. But short, in the Dolomites, rarely means easy. It started with a steep descent. And what does down must come up...Our instructions from Manuela were characteristically straightforward: take your time and enjoy the trail.

After breakfast at Rifugio Fanes, we continued along trail 11 before switching to trail 7 toward Rifugio Pederü, where we stopped for a civilised mid-morning break — drinks, a toilet, the essentials. From there, the path climbed steadily up to Rifugio Fodara Vedla, our mountain home for the night.

We arrived just ahead of the heavens opening, which is becoming something of a theme. Better still, there had been cancellations, and we managed to secure private doubles — a genuine luxury in hut-to-hut terms. We settled in and watched from shelter as later arrivals appeared on the trail, thoroughly drenched and, in some cases, without reservations. In a rifugio, that's a gamble. Fortunately for them, there was room — we saw them at dinner, slightly steaming but otherwise intact.

Simple breakfast offerings but more than enough to fill you up
