Cape Town

We had to make our way to Cape Town today which made the majority of the day a non event. The drive was long and hard. Despite driving on the same side of the road, it appeared that driving etiquette differed! There was no wave or the relaxed raised finger as a thank you. It appeared that the done thing here was the double blink of the hazard lights. And just like that, I had inherited a role as a passenger...

A long 7.5 hour drive to Cape Town
We finally arrived in Cape Town just before 3pm to return our rental car. We were met by Allie, the &Beyond representative, who drove us to our massive 3 bedroom 3 bathroom serviced apartment at the V&A waterfront. It had amazing views both from the large balcony as well as from the bedrooms. Check in was quick with the property manager giving us an orientation and a run down of the facilities. This was the first trip where we had not micromanaged the details but rather just handed over a large sum of money...thus we found ourselves in an unusual situation where we did not even know the address of the apartment or what the bathrooms looked like (my biggest hang up!) prior to our arrival. We even found ourselves purchasing a city pass and "winging" it. We would find ourselves on a hop on hop off bus tomorrow!! Sheesh!!

One of the other 2 bedrooms. Elliot won the "fight" to sleep here by himself

The view from the balcony. Just beyond the building is the V&A waterfront
Once the required paperwork was completed, we strolled toward the waterfront in search of food. There was plenty to choose from. We opted for the restaurant with half price sushi and cocktails. Yeah! The sight of seals sun baking on the pier platforms just outside was a bonus. The rest of the evening was spent attaining groceries and overcoming our FOMO. The city pass has over 70 included attractions so matching the best ones up with the four included hop on hop off bus routes was nearly a full time job. Our planning mode kicked into gear. Before we knew it, we went from "relaxing and play it by ear" to having 4 activity packed days!

Ferris Wheel...why not? It's included in our pass!

Gorgeous Cape Town!

Half price sushi and cocktails!

This whole plate was demolished in record time

This was our view at lunch! Forget pier 39!
