View of the place where we DIDN'T have lunch! |
Today's adventure for the day was a DIY tuk tuk trip to Barichara. We made it back alive and were not kidnapped! Jokes...
We had a free day today as tomorrow would be a long day. With most of the day lazing about at the resort, we decided to head to Barichara to grab lunch. How hard could it be when you don't speak any Spanish that was useful? We only learnt Vamanos from Dora the Explorer.
Hello Google Translate! We managed to get 2 tuks tuks to grab lunch at a restaurant at a viewpoint only to discover that they only sold food on Sundays. We stayed for a drink and fortunately the drinks were so large that it filled us up. We managed to again get 2 tuk tuks to take us back to the hotel via a bakery where we bought some supplies for lunch/afternoon tea.
A note on safety...so far we have not felt unsafe. Perhaps it is all ignorance bliss of a tourist. The locals have all been friendly, and genuinely kind even though they didn't speak any English. Other than Bogota, all the staff at the rural hotels only spoke Spanish but they all went out of their way to help, including delivering our printed boarding passes for tomorrow's flight after the local contact/travel agency checked in on our behalf!
