How Many Calories In A Club Sandwich?

We woke up nice and early to wish my parents a happy Chinese New Year. My mother answered the skype call in a happy mood. The parents are coping well. Tick! Elliot and Lara were laughing and running around, Jonah immediately ran away to hide, in fear that I might come back and pick him up. The children are coping well. Tick! With that done, we strolled down for breakfast by the pool. To our surprise, it was an a la carte breakfast and NOT a buffet.

It was at this point that I decided to stop logging my daily caloric intake. I had been doing this religiously for the past 2 weeks with My Fitness Pal (an iphone app for those who are not familiar), partly as part of my iphone discovery and partly to improve my fitness. I wanted to savour my water melon joice, eggs benedict, fresh fruit, muesli and yoghurt without guilt!

Second course. Eggs Benedict...one of my favourites

It was then off to start our first full day in Bali. We were picked up by Ipung, our driver, which my cousin had kindly organised on our behalf. The car, driver and petrol only costed us $40 per day for 10 hours. After a brief stop to exchange currency, we started supplier hunting. We had a spreadsheet of shops to visit from our current builder. Ipung was on a mission to get us to many as possible in the one day. We visited specialist stone shops, copper and brassware, timber furniture, homewares and textiles with more to come.

We gave poor Ipung another list to fulfil, this time a list full of recommendations for meals. Lunch was at a beachside restaurant called Potato Head. This very funky "beach club" was certainly visually quite appealing. The facilities included an infinity edged pool over looking the ocean that the guests were free to use.The pool had Malcolm's dream feature...a swim up bar. They also had the most amazing list of cocktails! The food was also quite good.

To be greeted by this view! If only it weren't so cloudy, hazy and windy!

A very delicious Disco Daquiri

Malcolm's philly cheese steak

Very ordinary looking but amazingly tasty club sandwich. That sauce is something special!

We had some time to swim and relax in our villa, as well as watch a movie before heading out for a seafood dinner at Jimbaran. It was a shame that we never did get to eat on the beach or see the sunset as planned due to the strong winds. However, this didn't matter. The food was just to die for. Malcolm and I had never eaten so much for a very long time. We are determined to do a cooking class so we can prepare it back home. With very full stomachs, we rolled back to the car and went back to the villa. Tomorrow...Ubud!

Rambutans and mangosteens...food I haven't had for a while!

The most that we saw of the sun over the past 2 days and the closest that we came to a sunset this evening

Instead of sitting on one of those tables...

We got a view of this!

Our restaurant looked close from the beach!

Crab. Apologies for the very dark photos. My fingers were too greasy and sticky with sauce to change  the settings on my camera!

Selamat Datang

The lovely touches by our very own private pool

Hello from Bali!

We are here to source some materials for our new home as well as to celebrate (early) our 10th wedding anniversary. It is with mixed feelings that I write this post. We are without the children and we miss them terribly! We didn't realise just how much we enjoy sharing the excitement of travel with them. We also left the country with my mother-in-law in hospital. We will, however, enjoy this special time together as best we can. We appreciate the kindness and generosity of family and friends who are minding our children, who made this all possible. So let's not waste it!

Other than a 20 minute delay, the flight to Bali went smoothly, too smoothly. How easy is it to travel without children?!??! Malcolm and I enjoyed our coffee without interruption and we didn't have to fight to play with our own phones. Words with friends at the airport was a highlight. We purchased ourselves some snacks and drinks in preparation for the Virgin BYO everything flight. We did, however, purchase some very tasty albeit expensive Luke Mangan beef pies.

What is out of place here...there's only 1 bag! We normally travel with a  LOT more...

Setting up our own electronic store at the airport

We booked a one bedroom villa at The Elysian via the internet. It looked fabulous online but we weren't sure how things would pan out in real life. We needn't have worried. We were picked up in a private car by a Villa staff. He provided us cool, fragrant and refreshing towels, bottles of cold water as well as an ipad with wi-fi. I was sold on the spot.

Our ride from the airport

Our very delicious welcome drink - ginger, lime and lemongrass

The Elysian is a group of villas tucked away in the Seminyak area. You really do feel like you're in your own private space. The staff so far has been amazing. They greet you by your name when they meet you and are very friendly and helpful. The villas themselves are beautiful, private and is feature packed! It comes with its own private pool, apple TV with free movies, bose sound dock and much much more. We will let the photos do the talking!

Perfect for that after dinner swim

We decided to have dinner at the restaurant within The Elysian. The prices were surprisingly reasonable. The restaurant overlooked the lap pool shared by all the guests. The service was good and efficient. We ambled back to our villa for a quick dip before settling in bed, ready to use the free wifi! Cake drinks and flowers on arrival, return airport transfers, 2 hour spa for 2, breakfast, complimentary shuttle to the Seminyak area...all in all, not bad value for $120 per night!

Love these towels! Smells so good and so refreshing! In fact, all the linen smells beautiful

Needn't have worried about bringing our own!

Any excuse...

Today was my last day at work. After more than 6 years of service, I was made redundant as the role was made full time. I am grateful for the opportunities that I had been given. For one, I was able to work part time to enable time with my children. I was fortunate to be able to work with some wonderful people who gave me a memorable farewell. I can honestly report that I walk out a happy woman. So much so that I had to buy something to celebrate the next phase of my life. What better things to purchase than shoes! So here they are...all three pairs of hand-made leather shoes all the way from Brazil!
