Don't Get Bit In The Bum

Fried offerings at the spider market

Short post today! We transferred from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by car today leaving at 8am and arriving at our hotel shortly after 2pm. Enroute was a stop at the spider market. It was somewhat underwhelming. The tarantulas were shoved onto us as soon as we got out of the car. I really didn't like having children beg me for money and following me to the toilets. None of us felt completely comfortable and so our stop was very short!

Ready to go to Siem Reap

Yeah that's a real alive tarantula on my hand. High in protein!

What they look like fried

?Locusts ?Grasshoppers?

We stuck to our supermarket snacks

We stopped for a quick lunch stop about 30 min prior to arriving at Siem Reap. The pattern seemed to be that we were taken to restaurant geared for tourists. The food was not bad but not as good as the food yesterday. We were keen to arrive at our hotel as we had booked a 90 minute massage, and it was "sorely" needed as we were stiff from the long car ride. Best of all, there was a 30% off promotion!

Our base in Siem Reap was the Borei Angkor, another lovely luxurious hotel. The grounds and public spaces were beautiful but the rooms at the Palace Gate were definitely superior in terms of finishings and provisions. Our guide for Siem Reap, Mr Makara, was kind enough to stop at our hotel for a quick briefing of our 2 days with him. We were then free to swim at the pool, grab a quick bite and retire early in preparation for our 4:50am start tomorrow morning!!

Oh and if you were wondering about the title...it was because we had to kill mosquitos at every single toilet today including our hotel room!! We felt very vulnerable with our pants down because who sprays their butts with Deet!

Food wasn't too bad

Fried serpent fish. Beautifully fried but rather dry and tasteless

Our welcome drink, towel and cake at the Borei Angkor

Sticky rice with lotus paste

The sprawling lobby

Hotel restaurant overlooking the pool

Our room. At first I thought the blinds were closed because we had a bad view...it was to keep the heat out!

Separate toilet and shower

View from our balcony!

Massage time! Orange and passionfruit juice to start

Our feet were then cleaned with warm water with kaffir lime and scrubbed

Pool time!
