Wynwood Walls |
After a hearty American hotel buffet breakfast, we lyft-ed our way to Wynwood walls, the home of graffiti and street art. We were warned to avoid weekends and to get there early if we didn't want to wait too long to get photos of the art. It seemed we were too good at getting somewhere early...must have been the instinct to practice rope drop prior to our visit to Disneyland. We made use of our time to wander around the neighbourhood. There was art everywhere, not just in the "designated" areas. Even the children enjoyed picking out works that they liked or found funny.
It turned out our random walk around the neightbourhood wasn't so random after all. Malcolm had navigated us to the Salty Donut, a "family-owned, artisan donut shop that focuses on chef-made, small-batch, craft donuts". They were true to their word. The donuts were GOOD and the coffee was good (yes you read correctly, an Australian describing American coffee as good...). It was lucky we only bought two coffees as it was family sized. We had never seen a latte that big!

After our requisite wall art photos, it was time for lunch at
Joe's Stone Crab, only available during stone crab season between October to May. To reduce the cost for the voracious seafood eaters that are the Albany children, we had to bulk out the meal with crab soup and crab rolls. We walked off some of the calories with a stroll along Miami Beach. We couldn't stay long as we had important business to conduct. We were finally able to watch the last Star Wars instalment! To be fair to those who have not seen it, we won't give any spoilers. We LOVED it! It was better than the reviews had made it out to be. A great way to finish our first full day in Miami!
