Verona. Piazza Dei Signori |
We left Naples nice and early to make our way north. It was a 5 hour train trip to Verona on the high-speed train whizzing pass Rome, Florence, Bologna and peaceful country scenes. Definitely easier and more comfortable than hopping on a plane.
We were fortunate again to have our apartment rental ready when we arrived at 12:30pm! Our apartment at Via Nizza was conveniently located around the corner from Juliet's balcony. Although the apartment door was at ground level, the living area was up a flight of stairs and some of the bedrooms were up another flight of stairs. Lucky we had strong kids at our disposal!
We started our first load of laundry and set out to re-explore Verona. Ok well mostly shopping! I had forgotten how pretty the city is and how much I loved it the first time I came. We shopped until the arrival of the Yoongs, got them settled in and headed out to look for any place that would be open before 7pm for dinner. We didn't have to go very far. The cafe right outside our building was open for dinner at 5:41pm. We wanted to try amarone risotto or gnocchi as they were Veronese specialties. Unfortunately the gnocchi although tasty was only average. We meandered our way up to Castel San Pietro for sunset and to admire the view of Verona and the Adige River. Gelato on the way home was a must before we re-commenced with laundry duties...
